Oxalys is a large genus of flowering plants in the wood-sorrel family Oxalidaceae comprising about 800 of the 900 known species in the family…but this information is completely irrelevant and extremely unlikely to interest you when you are looking for a nice pad for the family right on the slopes in Val Thorens.

What is relevant, however, is the location of Oxalys with the apartments set in a nice, sunny spot just as you arrive into Val Thorens proper. Drive-in on the north side and ski-out on the south side directly onto the Plein-Sud (blue run) or on the east side directly onto a green-run. The location at the cross-roads of two slopes ensures doorstep skiing for beginner skiers as well as those with a few more miles under their belt. Oxalys is also just 300m from all the shops, bars & restaurants at the centre of Val Thorens. If you don’t fancy the walk, take the free resort shuttle bus which departs just across the road.

With its relaxed ambience, Oxalys is popular with families. The reception area is welcoming and the staff are friendly, there’s a bar with fireplace and an Italian restaurant “Il Gusto” on-site which serves excellent pizzas and pasta. It’s a fair change to the previous restaurant which was Jean Sulpice’s 2 Michelin-star restaurant but one that has been largely welcomed by families. No longer do loud children or requests for ketchup raise eyebrows or draw mutterings of “ooh la la” from the waiting staff!

As well as the restaurant, there is a large indoor swimming pool with stunning mountain views and a spa (imaginatively-named “Le Spa”) with Jacuzzi, saunas, hammams and a massage area.

You can choose from one of a mind-boggling eleven different types of apartment that sleep between two and eight persons and that offer a nice views or a very nice view and that are on one, two or three levels! Whichever apartment you choose, you can be sure of comfortable seating in a spacious living area, a flat-screen TV, telephone & WiFi throughout. Some have a balcony too! The equal ratio of bedrooms to bathrooms is consistent and all pads have a fully-equipped kitchen with 4-run ceramic hob, microwave/ oven combination, fridge, dishwasher, kettle, coffee-maker and toaster. There is also a full complement of cutlery, crockery & kitchen utensils. Can cook, will cook…!
