Hidden Gem Ski Resorts - Samoens

Posted on March 10, 2021

Here at TSC we’ve been talking a lot about those ski resorts that are off the beaten track…..the lesser known hidden gems.

With the 20/21 season having been, let’s face it, a complete right off, you won’t be surprised to hear us say it’s all about the 21/22 season. I know that’s what you’d expect from a sales team, but February was our busiest for new bookings in donkeys….only it wasn’t all of those last minute Easter bookings we would usually be dealing with, but all those uber organised amongst you who are locking down next year’s holiday….it’s even made the most laid back of us here in the office think we need to get the ski holiday booked in!!!!

With pent up demand, and families’ eagerness to make sure the kids don’t miss any more school, the peak holiday weeks are set to be busier than ever. It’s got us to thinking, maybe this is the year to try one of those lesser known resorts; the pretty one that you have always fancied but got cold feet right at the last minute, thinking it’s better to stick with what you know! We can’t think of a better year to take the plunge and seek out that smaller resort, avoid the lift queues and enjoy just a little more space on the slopes.

So, this is the first in a series of HIDDEN GEMS, and first up is the beautiful Samoëns.

Samoëns is one of five resorts that make up the impressive Grand Massif ski area (265 kms of piste) and it doesn’t disappoint, offering extensive skiing for all levels with virtually no lift queues. Samoëns itself is the quintessential Alpine village with a traffic free resort centre. The high capacity Grand Massif Express lift transformed the Samoëns ski area when it was built in 2003, enabling Skiers to access the Grand Massif in less than eight minutes from the village to the beginners’ slopes and the bottom of the main pistes at 1600m. Furthermore, the slopes above Samoëns face due north, so above 1600m the snow is reliable, and thanks to its geographical location, the Grand Massif enjoys plentiful, frequent snowfalls throughout the season.

Ready to take the plunge? We’ve got a selection of apartments (and growing) in this gem of a resort.

La Reine des Prés is a charming residence just a few minutes' walk from the resort centre, and 400 - 500m from the Grand Massif Express gondola. It really ticks so many of the boxes too……attractive façade – yes, spacious lounge areas with open fire – yes, Spa with indoor pool – yes, spacious apartments with modern fittings – yes, underground car park - yes, heated boot racks – yes!

A two bedroom apartment of 55 sq metres is EUR 3003 for New Year Week (26th December – 2nd January 2022) or EUR 3234 for February Half Tern (12th – 19th February 2022)
