Hidden Gems Ski Resorts - Valmorel

Posted on April 20, 2021

And we’re back to talking about one of our fave topics at the moment…..Hidden Gems! Those lesser known ski resorts. The ski resorts you’ve heard of and you think sound quintessentially charming, but you’ve never been quite brave enough to try, after all, there is great comfort to be had in what we already know right!

With the lurking presence of covid still on our minds as we look forward to next season, we’ve seen a continued appetite amongst The Ski Company clientele to explore these smaller, off the beaten-track resorts. We featured beautiful Samoëns last month, but now it’s time to tell you all about the delight that is Valmorel.

Now, I’m a little biased here. I grew up skiing in the 80s, and Valmorel was the resort my parents chose to introduce us to the mountains, and I cannot wait to return there this winter with my children…..nostalgia reigns! It has changed somewhat in the last 30 + years, but some things haven’t; beautiful stone and wooden chalets blend seamlessly into the mountain backdrop, and the car free village oozes charm. You couldn’t be further from the purpose-built feeling that some of the bigger resorts possess.

It’s a super family ski resort, particularly suited to beginner and intermediate skiers with 165 kms of piste being dominated by blue runs. It is an easy resort for families to navigate too as much of the accommodation is slopeside. Valmorel is unlikely to set your world alight if you are looking for couloirs and bold black runs, but we cannot speak highly enough of this authentic French resort for those skiing with young children or those with relatively inexperienced skiers in their group.

If we’ve helped to whet your appetite for something new, why not try La Grange Aux Fées. It’s an elegant residence situated by the Lanchettes chairlift in a prime ski-in/ski-out position and just a short walk from the village. With beautiful views, and balconies from which to enjoy them, the stylish apartments tick a lot of boxes for a family ski trip. The O des Cîmes Spa and wellness area is a wonderful place to while away a few hours after a hard day on the slopes. There is an indoor heated swimming pool, along with a hot tub, sauna and steam room and a fitness room for the particularly energetic amongst you!

A two bedroom apartment of 65 sq metres is EUR 3427 for New Year Week (26th December – 2nd January 2022) or EUR 3835 for February Half Tern (12th – 19th February 2022)
